Security Consulting - Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment

security risks security consultantAnalyze Your Security Risks With the Help of ISOG Security Consultant

This is a 360 degree service offered to single individuals and companies. ISOG security consultants employ different methods and tools in carrying out a Security Risk Assessment (SRA), including the TRAM ("Threat and Risk Analysis Matrix") Method developed by the IMO ("International Maritime Organization"); the RAM ("Risk Assessment Methodology") developed by Sandia National Laboratories; and the CARVER ("Criticality, Accessibility, Recoverability, Vulnerability, Effect on Population, Recognizability") Method developed as an offensive tool and used by special operations, counterterrorism and intelligence organizations. In case of companies, staff, installations, vulnerability of machinery, business and operating activities assessment, and estimation of losses are part of the scope of the analysis.

Security Risk Assessments are carried out as part of a security audit or as a stand-alone service. The initial assessment is followed by periodic updates on a frequency agreed by the client.

Security Risk Assessments can be performed for the following facilities:
  • Banks and financial institutions
  • Residential Buildings
  • Multinationals
  • Schools and Universities
  • Refineries, tunnels, oil platforms and power production
  • Government buildings
  • Military installations
  • Airports and ports
  • Maritime companies and vessels
Risk Assessment is also a tool used for implementing the ISPS Code.

Maritime and Port Security Risk Assessment
The ISPS Code sets specific compliance requirements for making sure the port facilities, maritime companies and vessels implement security measures to prevent terrorist attack effectively. For this reason, Security Risk Assessments for these facilities are described more in-depth.

Port Facility Security Assessment (PFSA)
The Port Facility Security Assessment includes an on-site port facility security assessment and a real-time threat assessment. In order to comply with the ISPS requirements, the Port Facility Security Assessment must be carried out for each facility and is the starting point for the Port Facility Security Plan.
Only after the completion of the Port Facility Security Assessment it is possible to proceed with the writing of the Port Facility Security Plan.

Ship Security Assessment (SSA)
A Ship Security Assessment includes a real-time threat assessment and an on-site ship security assessment. In order to comply with the ISPS requirements, the Ship Security Assessment must be performed individually on board each vessel, as it is the basis for each vessel’s ship security plan. The Ship Security Assessment ends with the production of a report that highlights strengths and weaknesses.

Company Security Assessment (CSA)
The Company Security Assessment evaluates the company’s security organization, processes and procedures as they relate to ISPS-Code compliance and the required interface with vessel security assessment and subsequent plan production. The Company Security Assessment includes the company’s security interface with the vessel with respect to crewing, cargo/chartering, vendors, operations and the port facility. As part of the Company Security Assessment, the company will review the completed Ship Security Assessment for each vessel in the fleet and determine what security measures must be implemented on each vessel. ISOG security consultants will explore with the company additional or alternative security measures that might need to be adopted.
Only after the completion of the Ship Security Assessments and the Company Security Assessment, it would be possible to proceed with the writing of the Ship Security Plan and the Company Security Plan.
